Air compressors are designed to provide cleaner air, greater reliability,
less vibration, and quieter operation. Reliability and durability are enhanced
by a cast-iron piston that is stronger than aluminum pistons. Another advantage
is that fewer parts and hardware are required to simplify the installation of
the compressor to the engine. The current Detroit Diesel adaptorless air compressors have replaced the original air compressors and adaptors on the majority of Series 60 on-highway engines.
